Taking care of your teeth is so important, and good dental hygiene starts when individuals are young. As soon as children have their first set of teeth, it is essential that they are taught the proper brushing and flossing techniques. Parents and dentists should also make brushing and dental care fun and exciting to help encourage continued compliance. Approximately 10-15% of our practice is patients that are aged 18 or younger, and we encourage families to come to the dentist together to strengthen their bond with their dentist and ensure continued success with their family's overall dental hygiene.
At Dr. Port's office, he feels it is so important to start seeing children and families at his practice to ensure continued dental success from generation to generation. Parents can bring in their children to Dr. Port's practice for their first visit, and he encourages that parents schedule appointments along with their younger children to help ease young children into the dental office without harboring a sense of fear and anxiety like many adults have with their dental care.

I have such high anxiety of going to the dentist. Haven’t been in 4 years because of it. Alivia talk me through what they do for patients with anxiety and made me feel easy about coming in. Then Melissa my hygienist was so comforting and made me feel easy through my whole cleaning. She also payed attention to every concern I brought up. I would recommend 100%. Thank you Asheville Smiles for making this experience awesome and helping me look forward to my next appointment for the first time.

We'll oftentimes suggest scheduling children for their first appointment when they turn three or four years old in order to start seeing them regularly and monitor their dental care. We make your child's first check-up fun and low-key to keep them from fearing the dentist and the office itself. If a child needs more advanced dental needs, we do have an extended network of pediatric-specific doctors and dentists that can further assist our patients if the need exists. Checkups, cleanings, and education are all included in a child's dentist appointment, and can help get them the right start they need to begin a lifetime of great dental health care.
