Dr. Christopher Port is a dentist who offers general, cosmetic, and restorative care to patients ready to transform their smiles. Understanding the options available is important in choosing the right treatment. For patients with mild to moderate misalignment of the smile, solutions such as Invisalign are often recommended.

What is Invisalign?

Dr. Christopher Port and his team encourage patients to think about Invisalign as a solution for teeth that are misaligned, crooked, or spaced apart. Invisalign in is a method of orthodontic treatment that eliminates the need for traditional metal bracket and wire braces. Instead, using clear plastic aligner trays, we can reposition the teeth in the same manner with the same results – without patients having to visit a specialist or spend months, sometimes years, with metal braces on their teeth! Invisalign is a revolutionary solution to a common problem.

How does Invisalign work?

at the Asheville Smile Center. Dr. Christopher Port is a dentist who offers general, cosmetic, and restorative care to patients ready to transform their smiles.
Invisalign uses trays that are custom-made for a patient to gently move the teeth where they need to be. This is achieved when patients comply with their treatment. First, the dentist takes digitized impression of the dental arch, which are sent to the Invisalign laboratory where the team makes a series of custom trays. These trays start with the current formation of the smile and then gradually shape to the teeth as they shift into place. The number of trays in a series for each patient will differ, depending on the severity of misalignment. Dr. Christopher Port receives the trays from the Invisalign laboratories and patients come back into the practice to obtain their trays and learn more about how the system works. Care and use are discussed, and patients leave the office with their aligner trays. Trays are worn for two weeks before moving to the next tray in the series, and they should be worn day and night for proper results. Patients can remove their trays from their mouth when they are drinking, eating, brushing, or flossing. Once patients achieve the results they desire, they can continue to use the final tray as a retainer or request a long-term retainer through our practice to maintain the results for life!

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign is:

  • Fast
  • Effective
  • Safe
  • Comfortable
  • Affordable
  • Discreet
When patients are faced with misalignment, they may avoid asking their dentist about solutions because they fear the idea of covering the smile with metal brackets and wires to achieve results. With Invisalign, patients can feel confident throughout their treatment because of how quickly it works and how simple it is to do. Invisalign has completely changed the way many of our patients look at orthodontic treatment, allowing them to not only get the smile they’ve desired, but also do so without feeling embarrassed throughout the process.

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Dr. Christopher Port receives the trays from the Invisalign laboratories and patients come back into the practice to obtain their trays and learn more about how the system works.
Determining candidacy for treatments such as Invisalign is done during an initial consultation appointment with Dr. Christopher Port and the team at the Asheville Smile Center. A physical evaluation is performed, as well as a discussion with the patient about what they want to achieve. X-rays may be done to check the health of the rest of the smile as well. The best candidates for Invisalign are patients with mild to moderate misalignment of the teeth. It may be done strictly for cosmetic purposes or to help patients in realigning their bite, whether they deal with an overbite, a crossbite, or an underbite.
