FAQs on Complete Dental Care

Selecting the best dentist in Asheville for mature patients

Dr. Port and his team at Asheville Smile Center enjoy providing compassionate, quality dental care to patients of all ages. They know that you face different oral health challenges at each stage of life. This is an important consideration if you are a mature individual, looking for the best dentist in Asheville to help you maintain a good-looking smile that contributes to your overall wellness and quality of life.

Gum disease in seniors

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research estimates more than 17 percent of those aged 65 and older have periodontal disease, and nearly 11 percent have moderate to severe cases. Gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss. Missing teeth impair your ability to eat a balanced diet and to chew food properly for good digestion. The condition makes breath unpleasant and leaves gaps in your smile. Bacteria that cause gum disease are also linked to serious health concerns such as high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke and heart attack, and Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Port screens for gum disease at each regular check-up. If he detects the presence of gingivitis or periodontitis, the doctor develops a customized treatment plan to get it under control. Then he shares tips to help you keep gums healthy year round.

Addressing wear with cosmetic dentistry

You and your teeth have been through a lot together, and chances are you aren't ready to stop smiling for a long time. The years may have left your teeth discolored, misaligned, chipped, or worn down, but there is no reason your smile can't look gorgeous and youthful. Dr. Port works with you to address the areas that concern you most, suggesting cosmetic corrections such as teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, or gentle straightening techniques.

Patients can lose their teeth at any age, from trauma or dental conditions. Dentures that look natural give a tremendous boost to self-confidence. When dentures fit well, they let you enjoy the finer things in life – a juicy steak, a crisp apple, or a spontaneous belly laugh – without embarrassing slippage. Dr. Port would love to talk with you about The Denture Fountain of Youth™, a unique design that restores facial appearance and function of lost teeth.

Life experiences have molded you into the one-of-a-kind person you are today. Your dental care should be as unique as you are. As you search for the best dentist in Asheville for yourself or for a mature family member, know that in Dr. Port's hands, dental care is never one-size-fits-all. Call (828) 585-4049 to schedule an appointment.

Some of the SWEETEST people I've ever met work here. I was super worried about going in because it had been a LONG time since I had a dentist appointment. They were super non-judgemental and friendly and gave me great advice. Would definitely recommend coming here if you haven't already.
