J. Kory Garretson, DDS
Dr. Garretson began his dental career while still in high school, spending his summers working in a dental office owned by his older brother. Later he would study Chemistry at Wake Forest University, graduating with honors in 1997. In 2002 he graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School in San Antonio. South Texas offered many opportunities to gain experience above and beyond dental school by volunteering to perform low cost and free dental care to impoverished communities along the United States-Mexico border. The weekend volunteering trips soon became a passion for Dr. Garretson and he has explored further volunteer opportunities throughout his career working with indigenous populations in Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica as well as underserved populations in the United States through community care centers, mobile bus clinics and church organizations.
Dr. Garretson has never stopped his journey of learning in the dental field. He has undertaken extensive educational opportunities across the country to expand his skill set. He has completed mini residencies in implant placement and restoration as well as IV sedation and medical emergencies. Dr. Garretson has also sought out the latest techniques in various other aspects of dentistry including pediatrics, prosthodontics (dentures and partials), endodontics (root canals), cosmetic bonding and treatment of TMJ and sleep disorders.
Dr. Garretson’s free time is spent with his wife and two children, their two dogs and one pet bunny. As a family they love the mountains with its opportunities for hiking and camping. Asheville is a fine fit for Dr. Garretson, as he is also an avid cyclist and banjo player.
Dentistry really can change lives. In his 16 year career Dr. Garretson has continually strived to provide dental treatment of the highest quality in a family atmosphere of compassion. Nothing can bring more satisfaction to a dentist than to relieve pain, to restore function, or to rejuvenate and brighten a smile. For Dr. Garretson, this has become a lifelong mission.
