Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Hendersonville area patients ask, "How do veneers work for teeth?"

Patients with gaps between their teeth, crooked teeth, or teeth that are broken or stained may benefit from the placement of porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are restorations available to patients in and around the Hendersonville area who want to rejuvenate their smiles and hide imperfections quickly and easily. Dr. Christopher Port of the Asheville Smile Center uses veneers regularly to accomplish cosmetic improvements.

Many patients ask, “How do veneers work for teeth?” Veneers are very thin shells, which are fabricated specifically for each individual tooth. After preparation of the teeth, which requires removal of some natural tooth enamel, impressions are made and sent to a ceramist who creates the veneers. The veneers are sent to the Asheville Smile Center and patients have them bonded in place. Veneers have some translucency to look natural but not enough to show the actual tooth beneath, making them a wonderful way of hiding problem areas. A very strong dental bond is made which allows the veneer to stay in place for many years.

Porcelain veneers are an alternative to other solutions including composite resin bonding, dental crowns, and orthodontics. Patients find that veneers are a fast, affordable, and permanent way to improve their smile for years, sometimes decades. Patients are educated by Dr. Christopher Port on how to maintain their veneers, including regular dental visits, cleanings, and the use of a mouth guard if problems such as bruxism exist. Patients are also advised to avoid chewing and biting on very hard objects such as ice cubes as this can crack the veneers or pop them off the tooth.

Porcelain veneers are long-lasting restorations, which many patients consider due to the ease of use and how quickly they rejuvenate their appearance. Patients in the Hendersonville area and surrounding communities who want to learn more about this cosmetic treatment are urged to contact Dr. Christopher Port of the Asheville Smile Center today to schedule a consultation visit. During this time, they can ask any questions they may have about the creation and placement of porcelain veneers, as well as maintenance.
