Arden, NC area dentist describes the benefits of Six Months Smiles
By Dr. Christopher Port
Dr. Christopher Port understands how the idea of traditional braces can turn patients off to correcting their smile’s alignment. When misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, and poor bite alignment are concerns, patients will avoid pursuing treatment because they are unwilling to undergo months or years of treatment with metal bracket and wire braces. However, patients in the Arden, NC area are welcome to ask our dentist about another way to achieve the smile of their dreams. They can discuss the benefits of alternative solutions such as Six Month Smiles.
How Six Month Smiles works
At the Asheville Smile Center, we want our patients to have choices. When patients have choices as to how they want to obtain a more beautiful smile, they feel more in control of their dental health and wellness. Misalignment can be a cosmetic concern, especially when the teeth near the front of the smile are impacted. Gaps between the teeth, teeth that are overcrowded, or teeth that are turned can have a negative impact on how one feels about their appearance. With orthodontic treatment, results can be achieved. With Six Month Smiles, patients are excited to learn that they can not only achieve the results of a new smile faster, but also with more discreet appliances.
Six Month Smiles is a special type of orthodontic treatment that is designed for patients with mild to moderate misalignment. This treatment still uses brackets and wires, but they are tooth colored for a less noticeable solution. Six Month Smiles uses a self-ligating wire to quickly move teeth into their new positions with long-lasting results and less discomfort . The primary benefit? Six Month Smiles will allow most patients to achieve their new look in four to nine months, with most patients changing their smile within six!
To determine candidacy, Dr. Christopher Port and his team encourage patients to book a consultation appointment at the Asheville Smile Center to determine if they are appropriate candidates for treatment. Patients with more severe cases of misalignment, or who have bite alignment concerns, may still be better suited for traditional orthodontic treatment with metal bracket and wire braces. Our dentists can provide referrals to appropriate professionals for such services. Additionally, our practice also offers an orthodontic alternative known as Invisalign, which uses clear aligner trays to reposition the teeth. This method of treatment can often address bite alignment if it is moderate. By speaking with Dr. Christopher Port, patients can decide what is best for achieving the results they desire.
What are the benefits of Six Month Smiles?
The primary advantages of Six Month Smiles include:
Can Six Month Smiles be painful?
In most situations, patients find Six Month Smiles to be a comfortable process. However, if any adjustments are made to the wire or the braces themselves, patients may experience some minor discomfort of the teeth for a day or two following these changes. This is common but well-tolerated, and patients can use over-the-counter pain medication to manage it.
What age should patients be to obtain Six Month Smiles?
We are pleased to offer Six Month Smiles for patients of all ages, but most of our patients who seek treatment are teenagers or adults seeking a cosmetic service that is aesthetic in appearance during treatment. To determine if a child is eligible for Six Month Smiles, Dr. Christopher Port encourages individuals to book a consultation appointment with our team of professionals so the smile can be evaluated and recommendations can be made regarding what is best.
