Treatment for an abscess on gum tissue for patients in the Arden area

Dr. Christopher Port of the Family Dental Health of South Asheville has dedicated his practice to helping patients in and around the Arden area with achieving beautiful, healthy smiles. When patients come into the practice with problems such as an abscess on the gum tissue, they need to seek treatment as soon as possible to keep the infection from spreading.

A dental abscess is a type of infection that can develop on the gum tissue. It often occurs due to poor oral health which is often tied to lack of regular dental care with a dedicated professional such as Dr. Christopher Port. Regular examinations can help in controlling problems that may arise within the smile, including the development of abscesses. Some patients who have underlying medical issues such as autoimmune disorders or disorders that can weaken the immune system may be at risk for developing abscesses even with proper dental care. The risk of problems can be assessed with regular appointments with Dr. Christopher Port.

Abscesses are caused by bacteria that can become painful when they inflame the tissues around a tooth. When this happens, patients need to seek care from a dental practice as soon as they can to ensure successful treatment and the maintenance of the dental health. Patients may experience puss and discomfort in the area where the abscess has formed. When this occurs, an appointment should be made with Dr. Christopher Port for appropriate treatment.

In most cases, a dental abscess may require root canal therapy. Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic therapy, is an oral surgery in which a dentist removes the dental pulp from the inside canals of the natural tooth. This deadens the tooth and removes the nerves and blood supply that can contribute to the pain and discomfort patients are experiencing when an abscess is present. After the root canal, the tooth may become weak, so placement of a dental crown should be strongly considered for further protection.

Patients in and around the area of Arden are welcome to contact the team of the Family Dental Health of South Asheville to discuss treatment options for abscess of the gum tissue. Dr. Christopher Port and his team work closely with patients in offering quality, comprehensive care and attention when necessary, while also encouraging regular appointments for examinations, cleanings, and x-rays as needed.
