Six Month Smiles

Your Asheville dentist can give you Straight Teeth in just six months

In recent years, we have seen many changes in the practice of dentistry. Due to improved materials, advanced technology, and a wealth of scientific research, many people are enjoying healthier and more beautiful smiles than ever before. Enhanced public awareness of oral health and growing fascination with dazzling smiles has led to a renewed interest in adult orthodontics. Thankfully, we no longer have to endure years of wearing metal braces to achieve beautifully straight teeth. Dr. Christopher Port is proud to offer Six Month Smiles innovative orthodontic treatment for residents of Asheville, NC, and surrounding communities.

The importance of a beautiful smile

On a daily basis, other people make judgments about you based on your appearance. This is especially true when meeting someone for the first time. According to psychologists, we only take about 30 seconds to form that all-important first impression. This certainly is not sufficient time to engage in conversation, or demonstrate your true personality. Although your hair, eyes, clothing, and other factors affect your overall image, your smile is the most noticeable.

Straight teeth are healthy teeth

Six Month Smiles is intended for cosmetic teeth straightening, meaning that it does not address bite misalignment. However, that does not mean that there are no health benefits. Crooked teeth create tight spaces, where it is difficult or impossible to clean properly. This allows bacteria-laden plaque to build up, turning into a hard substance known as calculus or tartar. Compounding the problem is the fact that gum tissue does not fit as snugly when teeth have shifted, making it easier for bacteria to invade below the gumline.

Advantages of expedited treatment

Orthodontics of any style improves your oral health in the long-term. However, the treatment itself can pose a problem. For the length of time that you are wearing fixed braces, oral hygiene becomes a bit more challenging. You will need to spend a little extra time on hygiene, and there is a risk of plaque and tartar accumulating in areas that you can’t access. This causes some people to develop cavities by the time they have worn braces for a couple of years. The fast treatment time of this system minimizes the risk of tooth damage, as well as your inconvenience.
