Your top cosmetic dentist in Asheville knows which materials best enhance your smile

When tending to your overall smile aesthetics with cosmetic dentistry, you want to achieve your primary goals in your first attempt. To accomplish the most natural smile enhancement, you want to work with the top cosmetic dentist in your area. Our Family Dental Health of South Asheville is equipped with the tools and technology to help you achieve your goals, with your dentist providing assistance in choosing the right materials for your unique needs.

Dental crowns are widely used today to restore full function and beauty to teeth damaged by injury or cavities. On the cosmetic side, veneers are becoming increasingly popular for the cosmetic correction of cracks, chips, gaps, discoloration, and other issues. In undergoing either treatment, multiple choices in material are typically offered.

The most immediately affordable material used for these procedures is composite, the chosen material for tooth-colored dental fillings. Composite resin fillings, due to their shape and size, are quite strong and long lasting. However, composite material may not be the best choice when the intention is to create a naturally striking smile.

For long-lasting dental crowns, a commonly chosen option is porcelain fused to metal. The metal base hidden beneath a layer of porcelain is suitable for the forces of chewing, while the porcelain overlay sustains the natural appearance of the smile. Over time, it is common to see a dark line appear where the crown meets the gums, which is why a porcelain fused to metal crown would not be used to restore front teeth. Dental veneers, being completely aesthetic in nature, are not fabricated with this combination of materials.

Both dental crowns and veneers can be fabricated using all ceramic or porcelain. In some instances, a zirconium base may be used for added strength. Crowns and veneers crafted from porcelain or ceramic are more aesthetically pleasing than other options, as these materials more closely resemble the natural enamel of teeth.

Porcelain veneers are slightly more costly than other options. However, this material will lead to the most natural-looking results.

Your cosmetic dentist has a number of ways in which your smile issues can be successfully handled. Contact Family Dental Health of South Asheville for your consultation.
